We know the demands in uniform are rigid. Comfort and uniformity are paramount. After all, no one likes being reprimanded by a superior for falling outside the uniform requirements. Introducing the Oakley SI Light Assault III, the newest evolution in a long history of Oakley Boot designs. That delicate balance between performance and falling within regulation.
The Light Assault III was designed to stay within the guidelines of AR 670-1, but also provide all day comfort and durability on the job. Enhanced traction, stability, and protection. This ON-DUTY boot has taken legacy Oakley technology and applied it to a modern aesthetic, all while adhering to the uniform standard.
We sat down with Senior Director of Military, Erick Poston, to learn a bit more about the boot, its history, and the significance of this new design.
What was the goal with Light Assault III?
Oakley developed the original Assault Boot 20 years ago with input from the Tier 1 SOF community. They were looking for a replacement to the GSG9 boot that was developed in 1972 after the Munich Olympic crisis. The goal was to build a lightweight performance boot with emphasis on traction, support and comfort.
What are the founding principles for Oakley boots?
Lightweight, supportive, comfortable, and protective. The goal is always to produce a product that enhances the users’ operational capabilities while supporting and protecting the individual wearing the product.
How is this boot different than previous iterations?
The Light Assault III focused on maintaining the key positive attributes of the Light Assault II by enhancing the upper design for efficiency and aesthetic and developing a custom out sole to maximize traction. We did this both in acceleration and deceleration and across 360 degrees, channeling to remove water and debris. We enhanced the cushioning and support in combination with the mid sole design, reduced compression set, creating confidence for the wearer in any environment.
What does the future hold for Oakley SI footwear?
We are constantly looking for advanced materials and manufacturing techniques to increase performance, comfort, and protection. Constantly pushing the envelope where we can. We plan to introduce additional models that focus on the real-world environments. We want our product to instill confidence so performance can be achieved on highest levels.
