We the Prepared: Fieldcraft Survival

Today’s world feels a bit uncertain. Anytime you read the news, scroll through your phone, or listen to a podcast it feels as if there are a variety of things that elevate concern. Natural disasters, crime, international events, the pandemic, vehicle accidents, and more. If a feeling of concern is the problem statement, then surely preparation is the solution. That’s where Fieldcraft Survival steps in.

Headquartered in Provo, Utah, Fieldcraft Survival was established in 2015 by veteran Mike Glover. Glover spent 18-years in the US Army and as a government contractor for OGA. A retired Sergeant Major (SGM), Glover spent the majority of his time in Special Forces deploying to a variety of combat theaters. Since then, Glover has dedicated his life to his family and the company. “It’s a profound purpose in educating people to be awake to the realities of life,” says Glover. “I’m kind of vague in that, but basically, I want people to be more self-aware, I want them to be prepared. Like I did in the military, where I wanted my guys to be prepared for war.”

Fieldcraft Survival is essentially a one-stop-shop for all things preparedness. “Fieldcraft Survival’s Mission is to expand your capabilities in the genre of survival,” says Rob Parsons, Fieldcraft Survival CEO. “Our goal is to educate, train, and equip you to survive in the worst-case scenario. It’s been that way since the founding.”

How do you make an impact across the community? According to Parsons, the ‘Pillars of Preparedness’ are really the starting point. These include Mindset, Planning, Situational Awareness, and Decision Point. “Mindset is the key to driving responsible citizens to be more prepared and being ready for whatever life throws at them,” says Parsons. “Planning helps you put the proper pieces in place before they are needed. Situational Awareness helps you to identify a threat before an incident and allows you to react and improve your circumstances. Decision Point is understanding what you are going to do in any critical event. Putting each of these components together help prepare you to survive a worst-case event.”

“Previously to working at Fieldcraft Survival, my preparedness focus was narrowly limited, focusing mostly on the major catastrophic events,” says Parsons. “However, being able to view the world and life through a more complete prepared mindset I’ve realized that it covers all aspects of life and allows me to focus on smaller things more frequently that set a foundation for dealing with bigger challenges.”

Training, Product, and Digital

With an established mission statement, application comes next. First, while Fieldcraft Survival is based in Provo, UT, they offer physical training all over the country. Courses in firearms training, mobility, medical, wilderness survival, home preparedness, self-defense and more. These courses can be viewed and accessed in their online course calendar and are taught by some amazing professionals and subject matter experts.

Of note, Fieldcraft Survival offers a particular course called Personal Defense, in which participants must respond to various scenarios such as a robbery, carjacking, or home invasion. Simunition, a form of non-lethal training ammunition, is used in each course. This training tool allows the cadre to implement the most realistic environment for the students, but without the added precaution of live ammunition. Despite the use of non-lethal ammunition, safety is still critical. The ammunition can deflect off surfaces and pose a real threat to the eye and face. Oakley SI has been honored to provide all instructors and participants with protective eyewear in this course. Eyewear that is rated to ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC. Such as M Frame 2.0, 3.0, Alpha, and HNBL.

Next, Fieldcraft Survival offers a wide variety of products that are designed specifically for survival, first-aid, and travel. Durable and innovative products that are customized to your vehicle, or person, in the event of a medical emergency, traffic accident, or wilderness mishap. One specific product, called the Modular Visor Panel is a pouch configuration packed with medical gear that attaches directly to the visor in your car. Easily accessible and removable with velcro should you need to exit the vehicle and run to a medical emergency.

Finally, the digital presence of Fieldcraft Survival is profound. With a brand new APP that works for Iphone and Adroid, the APP is an all-encompassing platform with multiple tutorials in preparation for your home, vehicle, the outdoors, and more. Additionally, Fieldcraft Survival has an immense reach on social media to include YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and a Podcast. All of these channels allow them to make connections with the community and keep preparation top of mind at all times.

What’s next for Fieldcraft Survival you ask? Parsons says, “the need for preparedness is growing every day, and the number of people who realize this grows with it. Fieldcraft Survival is excited to welcome those who have adopted the preparedness mindset into the community and looks forward to expanding its training into those new communities.”

At Oakley Standard Issue, we are excited to work alongside Fieldcraft Survival and provide equipment solutions to facilitate this effort. Safety and preparation isn’t just for the battlefield, but weaves in and out of every community.
