World War II was a defining moment in American history. Allied forces demonstrated unprecedented bravery and ingenuity to combat imperialistic aggression, exemplified by the iconic nose art of WWII planes such as the P-51 Mustang, the P-40 Warhawk, and even more famously – The Superman Spitfire. This artwork serves as an enduring reminder of our national virtue during this challenging period.
Included in the American Heritage Collection Airplane Art are three models: Holbrook, Gascan, and Drop Point.
Holbrook draws inspiration from the P-51 Mustang, a single-seat long-range fighter/fighter bomber. Gascan draws inspiration from the P-40 Warhawk, a plane that boasted uncontested speed in a dive, and was part of the famous Flying Tigers. Lastly, Drop Point draws inspiration from the Supermarine Spitfire, an agile single-seat fighter that was the backbone of the Royal Air Force – the only British fighter produced during the war.
